Her story is one of creativity, persistence, and an unyielding belief in staying true to oneself. Join us as Wendy shares her insights on motivation, overcoming challenges, her burgeoning fashion brand Evré Studio, and valuable advice for aspiring content creators!

1. Please introduce yourself and tell us how you got started as a Content Creator.

Hello, I'm Wendy Liow! I started creating content when I was 18, purely out of fun and not looking to make a career out of it. There were several fashion bloggers that I looked up to back then, and I loved how aesthetically pleasing their work was. I would say that I was heavily influenced by what was shown online and also easily inspired by the work of other creators. This is what piques my interest and keeps my content-creating sparks alive.

2. How do you stay motivated and come up with fresh ideas for your content?

As mentioned earlier, I love following the latest fashion trends and cultures around the world. Without travelling as often, my only window to all the information was through social media. I love following the fashion content creators on social media, and I truly admire their work. They curate visually stunning content that not only showcases the latest fashion trends but also inspires and empowers their followers to express themselves through personal style. Their influence encourages me to explore my own style, voice, and perspective, fostering a newfound appreciation for the artistry and storytelling inherent in fashion content creation. In essence, they fuel my aspirations and motivate me to pursue my dreams of becoming a fashion content creator myself.

3. What do you believe are the biggest challenges facing content creators today, and how do you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges I noticed most content creators face is NOT being able to "find their personal style" or "niche". Discovering your niche in content creation is essential for standing out in a crowded field. Personally, I think that a content creator that understands what they're focusing on allows them to carve out their unique space in the content creation landscape and connect deeply with an audience that shares their interests better. I see most content creators (even myself sometimes) struggle with this as a challenge. Therefore, to overcome this, I would pick and choose the type of client I want to work with. As I'm currently only focusing on fashion, beauty, and lifestyle, I would heavily filter out some clients that are irrelevant to avoid confusing my audience.

4. We also noticed that you have a brand, Evré Studio. Can you tell us more about it?

Yes, definitely! I launched Evré recently (20.1.2024), so it's still like a baby to me, haha! Just like a knot, Evré creates countless possibilities and focuses on making every woman look and feel special in their own way. Evré strives to create versatile and durable classic pieces that could cater to Evré-body. With careful thought around the detail and longevity of every piece, our clothing will be THAT seasonless piece to keep in your wardrobe.

Editor's note: Their latest collection, Sunset Soirée, was just launched last week. Check it out here!

5. What are your future goals and aspirations as a content creator and brand owner?

As a content creator, I wish to continue growing along with my little community. It's basically like a family to me that supports me and encourages me to try different things. I've seen and learnt so much from my CC friends as well. At the end of the day, this is still my full-time job, and I hope to engage myself with bigger and more reputable clients, learn more things on the way, pick up new skills, and improve the quality of my deliverables. Last but not least, I just hope to always be happy and to always enjoy what I'm doing. As for Evré, I hope to gain more recognition within my community and slowly expand my business internationally. Currently, I'm just focusing on striving locally and focusing on the local market. I'm just trying my best as it's also my first time running a clothing business, and I'm still learning the Malaysian market about what sells and what doesn't. It's a gigantic learning curve and a risk that I'm willing to take.

6. Was there a point where you almost gave up on Evré Studio but didn't – what kept you going?

As I just started this not long ago, the idea of quitting isn't in my mind for now, which I'm glad. I have the sweetest friends, family, and community that support me throughout the way, for which I'm extremely grateful, and I don't plan to let them down anytime soon. ♡♡

7. What advice would you give to someone who is just starting out as a content creator/building a fashion brand?

Do NOT give up. It took me seven years to build my personal branding and start as a content creator. I first started as a YouTuber before focusing on IG, and I gave up on YouTube TWICE because of how tiring content editing and planning are; spending the WHOLE day creating 5-minute videos to only get 10 views can be pretty discouraging. IG, on the other hand, is a totally different platform that I seem to enjoy better, not because of the algorithms, but because everything is so visually engaging without having to spend as much effort as YouTube. It has eventually become my visual diary. I'm not growing as fast as other creators out there, but I'm creating the content I enjoy most, which is what keeps me going.
As for the clothing business, or ANY business in this case, DO NOT GIVE UP, and you do need to have enough cash flow. I had two failed businesses before starting Evré, and they failed because I failed to deliver two main qualities that I mentioned earlier. But for Evre, I wish to differ as this is the business I've been wanting to do for the longest time, so I'm really just trying harder. Remember, success often comes to those who persist in the face of challenges. Don't let setbacks discourage you; keep pushing forward, and never underestimate the power of perseverance.

8. What would you have done differently if you could go back and do it again?

If I had one regret, it would be that I didn't discover and try out as many platforms as possible instead of sticking to IG as my only source of content creation platform. Exploring different social media platforms could help reach a broader audience, increasing brand visibility and engaging with followers through various features and formats. Furthermore, networking with diverse communities and influencers across platforms opens doors to collaboration and partnership opportunities. Overall, embracing a multi-platform approach allows you to leverage the strengths of each platform, maximize audience reach, and navigate the dynamic landscape of social media with agility and adaptability.

9. If your life was a movie, which character would play you and why?

I would see myself being a Blair Waldorf, I think, haha! ♡♡
Blair Waldorf is a key character in 'Gossip Girl'. She's known for being ambitious, smart, and sophisticated. With her sharp mind and quick wit, she expertly navigates the social scene of the Upper East Side, often outsmarting her rivals and setting fashion and lifestyle trends. Blair's strong leadership shows in how she takes charge in both social and romantic situations. I love how she has moments of vulnerability and insecurity even though she appears confident. It makes her character more relatable. Passionate and fiercely committed to her goals and relationships, Blair's complexity makes her a standout on TV.

10. What is one thing people don't know about you?

This is a tricky question!
I would say... being extremely stubborn? Haha! I hate being told what to do. I could go with the flow most of the time, but sometimes, when a certain opinion or statement comes with a hint of sarcasm, I tend to do the exact opposite, haha! Some people can be blunt with their comments; this is just something you will face more often, especially being a content creator or fashion business owner, and it's okay to stand on your own ground. I find it hard for myself to be swayed or influenced by external forces or negative opinions. Sometimes, we gotta stay true to ourselves and our beliefs, regardless of outside influences or pressures to conform.

11. What is the best quote that you live by?

This is a good one. "Be the energy you want to attract". You can manifest their desires and goals, leading to success, happiness, and abundance. OR you can dwell on negative thoughts or emotions that could attract unwanted experiences or outcomes. It's your call ♡♡
